Kenna Bogue and her staff did an amazing job while I was in a rush treating business guests to a delicious lunch with their famous root beer! One of them was from Sweden and I don't think he will enjoy any other root beer quite as much as theirs!
We ordered a burger as not to put anyone under any stress since breakfast was ending. When our meal came, my husband's burger was missing the 2 sauces that would flavor the specialty burger he ordered, my sides were missing and an actual waitress brought our food so I ask her for the sides. She graciously returned with them.
When greeted at 10:50 am to be seated the hostess asked breakfast or lunch, in which I replied " I'm not sure yet" my husband ask if they serve breakfast all day she said "No, it ends in 5 minutes'.
I've been in customer service for 40 years. If you put as much friendliness and care into your service to your customers as you 'do into thanking them to leave, you may have a decent restaurant.
Came for breakfast cause the Becky Thatcher Diner was closed. It was about what you would expect for breakfast, it's hard to screw up breakfast. Service was slow, but probably because the other breakfast place on the same street was closed. I had apple French toast and it was only slightly warm by the time our food came, the butter on top was completely melted. Had to ask twice for a root beer for my hubby, then when she brought our check she hadn't put the drink on and took it back to add. At that point most places wouldn't have charged for it. Overall it was fine, but definitely would choose the Becky Thatcher Diner just down the street over this place if we're ever in town again.
There was no friendliness until we went to pay and leave and we were told to have a great day by everyone working there.
What a quaint local diner! We had a great experience at this long-standing fixture in Hannibal. The MaidRite was hot and fresh. The onion rings we're very good and not dripping with grease. The pulled pork was good. The widow Douglas salad was very good and fresh. We have driven through town many times and glad we finally took the time and stopped. Homemade root beer is all you care to drink!
In addition to the great food and service, Kenna went above and beyond for me and emailed my receipt to me just minutes after requesting it from her via email... at 11:30 at night! Impeccable overall experience I will share for many years to come.
She seated us and gave us both menus for breakfast and lunch. The hostess took our order and there were only 2 other couples in the whole place.
A local landmark. Definately worth a visit. Great food and outstanding old time service. Loved the Maid Rites and home made root beer, which is served all you can drink. Hope to see you again soon!
